Taupe Smokey Eye w/ Nude Lips and Finding Your Perfect Nude Lipstick!

Posted 5 years ago - by: Kate Faulhaber

Hey ladies and gents! Hope your week went well. Today’s look is all about that classic brown smokey eye with the thick lashes and the light lip for a lady’s night out or for me…posting on I Live For Lipsticks! This look is universally flattering because the main eye shadow I used (MAC Satin Taupe) is a deeper taupe (helps bring out the blue and green eyes) but it has a silver/purple sheen throughout it (which flatters you ladies with brown and hazel eyes.) I wanted this to be the type of look that looked complex, but it’s actually very easy. You could wear false lashes with this look, but I decided against it mainly because…well I just didn’t want to that’s why! This taupe smokey eye is perfect for clubbing, concerts, dinner dates with a loved one, grocery shopping, little league games, running naked through your backyard…getting my drift? Check below which products I used to paint my face!

BEFORE STARTING ANY OF THE MAKEUP: Grab two pieces of Scotch tape, place them on your hand a few times to remove most of the stickiness, and line them up from your nose to your lower lash line and place them near each eye. This helps create a sharp edge for your shadow and also helps you guide your wing for your eye liner. And…I’m so sorry for the crappy quality of the pictures. I used my iPhone and it’s getting dark…I should probably start using my digital camera…okay back to the original programming!

Eyes: On the lid I patted on MAC Satin Taupe eye shadow, Urban Decay Naked is blended through the crease to a little above for a transition shade, Makeup Geek Cocoa Bear in the crease, Makeup Geek Corrupt in the outer V, Kat Von D South for the brow bone highlight. For the top lashline I used L’Oreal Infallible gel liner in Blackest Black, I lined my bottom waterline with Urban Decay 24/7 pencil in Scorch, The bottom lashline I used Makeup Geek Cocoa to smoke it out and then in the inner corner I put Urban Decay Baked. For mascara I used Maybelline Colossal on the top lashes and Benefit They’re Real on the lower lashes.

Face: Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 liquid foundation in Classic Ivory, L’Oreal True Match concealer in N123, NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat powder foundation in Nude, NYC Smooth Skin bronzing powder in Sunny, ELF Studio powder blush in Pink Passion

Lips: NYX Retractable lip liner in Nude, Lime Crime opaque lipstick in Coquette, and NYX Butter Gloss in Strawberry Parfait to add a touch of pink.

Finding Your Perfect Nude Lipstick
Pink Nudes- This looks best on women with cool undertones with a fair-medium skin tone. Women with yellow undertones can wear this too, but if it’s a blue pink undertone in the nude it might take the warmth away from your skin, so try a coral nude or pinky peach nude to compliment your warm skin. (Look up Lime Crime Babette lipstick or Milani Color Statement lipstick in Nude Creme to see exactly what color I mean) A very popular pink nude is MAC Creme Cup.

Peach Nudes- Nude lipsticks with peach undertones flatter yellow toned skin from fair-dark. Not sure what a peach nude is? It just really means a light orange based nude. One of my favorite nude lipsticks that has a peach undertone is Lime Crime Coquette.

Beige Nudes- This is generally a very difficult shade to work with. On very light skin it looks like you put foundation on your lips. On dark skin it just looks VERY ashy. I think to pull this off it either has to be the right eye look, you put a pink or peach gloss on top, or you have a neutral medium skin tone. A couple famous beige nude lipsticks are MAC Creme De Nude and Revlon Nude Attitude.

Brown Nudes- Brown tone nudes look stunning on medium-dark skin. Ladies with fair skin can wear them too, but they won’t really give you the effect of a nude lipstick like a pink or peach tone would. MAC Velvet Teddy and Wet n Wild Bare It All are both lovely brown nude lipsticks.

Thanks again to everyone who has been reading and sharing my blog! You’re literally the greatest <3
