Sultry Gold and Black Winged Smokey Eyes

Posted 5 years ago - by: Kate Faulhaber

Hey everyone! I have a new tutorial up today! One of my favorite colors to wear on my eyes is gold. It really flatters all eye colors and skin tones. And gold can go anywhere from light to bold! This is the makeup look I wore for the Gay Games 2014 Gold Party. (which was SO much fun!) I wanted to do something bold, gold, and a little more fierce than my usual party makeup! Obviously, you see that I have two different lip colors on…I started with a pinky peach lip color…but it’s a GOLD party so I ended up sporting shimmery gold lips. If you want to know how I painted my face, please read on!

Eyes: As always, I primed my eyes with Wet N Wild Take On The Day eye shadow primer. Then, with a small eye shadow brush, I took the gold from the L’Oreal HIP Eye Shadow Duo in Guilded and patted that on the inner half of my lid. With another eye shadow brush, I applied Urban Decay Dark Horse to the outer portion of my lid blending it into the gold. After packing on and blending the shadows a few times to get the result I wanted, I took my favorite black eye shadow (Corrupt by Makeup Geek) and applied that into the outer v of my eye and blended it into a wing shape with a small smudger brush. Of course if needed, add more of Dark Horse and Corrupt and blend to get the right blended look. If the wing isn’t sharp enough, either take a Q-tip with makeup remover and wipe the edge off or take a makeup remover wipe and fold it to make a straight edge and remove excess shadow. On my lower lash line, I applied Urban Decay Buck on the outer half. Then, for the inner half I started with my NYX Slide On Glide On waterproof eye liner in Pure White, then blended that a bit with my pinky finger. I topped off the liner with Urban Decay Half Baked eye shadow. This adds brightness to your sultry eye look. Then topping off Half Baked I used NYX Crystal glitter eye liner in Crystal Gold. To make this look more sultry and sexy, I applied my NYX Retractable eye liner in Brown and lined both my upper and lower waterlines. With my L’Oreal Infallible gel liner in Blackest Black, I lined my top lash line with a thin-ish line and barely winged it out to help dark the lash line and outer corner. For mascara, same as always: Clinique Lash Doubling and Maybelline Colossal on the top lashes and Benefit They’re Real on the bottom lashes.

Face: For my foundation, I used my go-to Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 liquid foundation in Classic Ivory and applied it all over my skin and down my neck with a beauty sponge from Ulta. Then, I set the foundation with my NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat powder foundation in Nude. I added the slightest bit of NYC Sunny bronzer to my cheekbones and forehead. For blush, I used The Balm powder blush in Frat Boy. For glowy cheeks, I used Benefit Watts Up cream highlighter.

Lips: My nude lip look is Milani Color Statement lipstick in Nude Creme. But, for my shimmery gold lips, I started with NYX Retractable lip pencil in Nude then patted on the gold eye shadow from the L’Oreal HIP Eye Shadow Duo in Guilded.
