Large Birthday Makeup Haul & Reviews!

Posted 5 years ago - by: Kate Faulhaber

I wanted to share mini reviews of the makeup I either  bought with gift cards that I got as birthday gifts, or products that I received with Sephora points.. This is not intended for bragging rights or showing off, it’s purely for a fun and informational review. Two of the products I received as birthday gifts are limited edition MAC products which I reviewed and provided swatches for on another post which I will give the link to on the bottom of this post if you’re interested. There are quite a few lip products, a few single eye shadows, a mascara, and a liquid eye liner in this haul and review. I hope you enjoy and find this helpful if you’re contemplating making a purchase on one of these products or anything similar to them!

Brule Eye Shadow

Finish: Satin

Maccosmetics.com Description: Soft creamy-beige

Review: This is a great shadow for all over the lid or as a brow highlight. The shimmer in this is extremely subtle so it’s absolutely perfect for everyday wear if you’re uncomfortable with a heavily shimmered shadow. It has medium pigmentation which is why I provided a second swatch that shows the color packed on more. Plus, it’s also basically the same color as my skin, which is also why it’s hard to see it swatched.

Cork Eye Shadow

Finish: Satin

Maccosmetics.com Description: Muted golden brown

Review: I’m completely adoring this shadow as well. The texture is so smooth and it’s very pigmented. Perfect for a crease color and it’s also supposed to be an awesome brow powder…I’ll have to try that sometime.

Fig1 Eye Shadow

Finish: Matte2

Maccosmetics.com Description: Eggplant purple

Review: This is a really pretty warm purple for fall/winter. I love it as a crease shade for purple smokey eyes or as an outer V or lower lash line color for neutral eyes with a subtle pop. The texture is AMAZING. It’s so smooth and is a dream matte shadow to apply. I highly recommend this if you love purple shadows!

OCC Lip Tar Pink Prism Kit

Comes With: Lip Primer, Lovecraft lip tar, Pretty Boy lip tar, & mini 010 precision lip brush

Primer in Clear
Love Craft
Pretty Boy
Pretty Boy

Review: This little kit is awesome if you’re wanting to try out the lip tars. One regular sized lip tar is $18 and this kit is only a dollar more for two lip tars and a lip primer. Even though these are smaller, because you only need the tiniest dot of product to cover your lips it’ll last you a while! The primer seemed to help the longevity of the lip tars but only add the tiniest bit. Both Lovecraft and Pretty Boy were were gorgeous on the lips. Lovecraft has a metallic finish which can show the cracks in your lips so just moisturize your lips a bit beforehand. When I removed it I noticed a bit of glitter left which I never saw on my lips… a little weird but hey it’s cool. Pretty Boy is my ideal lip product. Super pigmented, super smooth, and extremely flattering with my skin tone and probably would be with all skin tones. I plan to post a How To for lip tar application if anyone is interested with learning more about this product. If you’re a girl who loves her lip products and bold lip colors…I recommend these for sure!

Kat Von D Everlasting Love Liquid Lipstick

Shade: Backstage Bambi

Sephora.com Description: Vivid hot pink

Backstage Bambi

Review: Such an AWESOME liquid lipstick. It’s opaque in 1-2 coats and last all day. It doesn’t transfer once it dries to your lips. Throughout the day it may be a little dry so just bring a lip balm with you in just. When I wore it, it lasted about 7 1/2 hours until I had to reapply. I definitely would love to try more colors from this line. Most of the colors are bright or deep shades but other softer colors are available as well. Backstage Bambi spoke to me the most…I can’t believe I just typed that. But a neon pink…it’s a Kate color.

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner

Shade: Trooper

Sephora.com Description: Ink black

Review: This has become my new favorite liquid eye liner. It’s a pigmented black formula and it lasts all day without smudging. The applicator on this liner makes it VERY easy to apply a very thin line of black on your lash line (That’s one of my biggest makeup struggles!) Basically if I can get a good thin line with this, you can too!

Buxom Full & Fabulous Mascara Bar

Shade: Show-off black

Sephora.com Mascara Description: molded ball tips power through lashes for lavish fullness from roots to ends

Review: I have mixed feelings about this mascara. It definitely lengthened and seperated my lashes really well. But…its really messy to apply. There are very tiny balls (tehe) on the ends of the bristles which always seemed to touch my eyelid and get mascara everywhere. Another problem I have with this is that I like to layer another mascara with it and when I used my Clinique Lash Doubling mascara underneath the Buxom one my lashes clumped HORRIBLY. Like girl cliques in high school. We had the popular lash, the nerd lash, the artsy kids lash…okay you get my point. This will not be an issue for everyone since I’m sure a lot of people don’t use two mascaras in one makeup look but keep it in mind.

Hope this was helpful! Thanks for reading and supporting <3
