Celebrity Inspired Makeup: Lorde

Posted 5 years ago - by: Kate Faulhaber

Today’s look is my first part of a little celebrity makeup series. The first post is all about Lorde! I don’t personally listen to her music…but oh my lord…(damn…puns…) Lorde has the GREATEST makeup. I really admire her for being so bold even at such a young age…kind of reminds me of me in high school wearing a full face of makeup to class haha. The look I decided to do isn’t her simple winged liner with the dark purple lip…but the intricate smokey winged liner and light pink lip from her “Royals” music video. I LOVE how when her eyes are open it looks like a simple cat-eye liner, but when she closes her eyes it goes into her crease and is a bit smokey. This look looks complicated, but if you do it step by step, it’s easier than you would imagine. Check out how I painted my face like Lorde!

Eyes: First, cover your eyes with an eye shadow the same color as your skin, I used NYX eye shadow in Vanilla Sky. Next, line the outer 3/4 of your top lash line with a VERY thin line of Makeup Geek Corrupt eye shadow. Then, use that same black eye shadow to draw a line up using your bottom lash line as a guide (like your about to create a wing.) Take a clean angled eye brush and begin flicking the shadow inwards to smoke it out. Take a gray shadow like Urban Decay Gunmetal to keep blending in. Take the same brush that you used to line your top lash line and carefully draw a line in your crease with your black shadow creating an unclosed petal-like shape. Flick and blend and build the wing line in until it’s to your liking. To brighten your eyes, take a white or nude colored eye liner and line your bottom waterline (I used NYX Slide On Glide On pencil in Pure White.) Take your favorite mascara (I’m using Clinique Lash Doubling) and build up your top lashes.

Face: Lorde has a matte finish to her skin. I took my Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous foundation and used a beauty sponge to apply it. I applied L’Oreal True Match concealer under my eyes and on red areas of my face. I applied my NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat powder foundation as a finishing powder to keep the matte finish. It doesn’t look like Lorde has any contour powder or blush on, but I need at least blush so I applied a light layer of NYX powder blush in Dusty Rose to the backs of the apples of my cheeks.

Lips: I’m not exactly sure what her lip color is…to me it looks like a blue toned light pink with a little bit of a nude tone. So I combined NARS Roman Holiday lipstick with a tiny bit of Lime Crime Coquette lipstick.
