Celebrity Inspired Makeup: Katy Perry

Posted 5 years ago - by: Kate Faulhaber

Oh hey ladies and germs! Today’s post is another celebrity inspired look. I’m not sure if I want to make a series out of this, but I think throughout posting on this blog I’ll occasionally try to replicate a celebrity makeup look. The first celebrity that came to mind for me today HAS to be Katy Perry. She’s been my favorite pop artist since the beginning of her career and I just think she’s absolutely stunning. Her makeup goes from very bold to very soft, but it always looks flawless. She’s one of my biggest inspirations when it comes to makeup. I think she’s the reason I got so into a bold colorful eye liner with a bright pink lip. But I wanted to do something else besides what I usually do and also wanted the look that I picked to be something that flatters all eye colors. I went through a plethora of photos of Katy, and decided on this look for today.

A silver smokey eye is one of the basic dramatic eye looks that every women can rock. The shimmer in the silver brightens up any eye color and looks so gorgeous for a night out look. I wouldn’t necessarily think to pair this eye look with a coral lip…but I actually love it on Katy! For the sake of doing a true replication, I will wear a coral lipstick, but generally I’d prefer a nude lipstick or a medium neutral pink. Keep reading on to see how I painted my face!

DISCLAIMER: Before starting this look, I recommend that you do your eye makeup first because the black and silver shadows will have a lot of fallout. Also, notice the sharp edge that Katy’s eye makeup has? To achieve that edge, get out your Scotch tape, put it on the back of your hand to remove some of the stickiness, then line it up with your bottom lash line and place it next to your eye like this.

Okay, now here are the products I used to achieve this look!

Eyes: After I applied my Wet n Wild Take On The Day eye shadow primer, I took my NYX Slide On Glide On waterproof pencil in Platinum and colored in the first 2/3 of my eye lid. I used some random silver shadow for 2/3 of the lid and under the lower lash line. For the blue/gray for the transition shade into the black I used Urban Decay Gunmetal. For the black on the outer edge I used Makeup Geek Corrupt. Keep building colors and blending until you have it to your liking. (leave the tape on, it will help you shape the wing of your eyeliner with a perfect edge) I lined by bottom waterline with NYX Slide On Glide On waterproof pencil in Platinum. For the thick black winged liner on my top lash line I used L’Oreal Infallible gel liner in Blackest Black. (Now remove the tape) Beautiful edge right? If not, take a Q-tip with makeup remover to clean up the edge. For the glitter on all the silver shadow, I used NYX Studio Crystal liner in Crystal Hip. For mascara, I used my favorite combo of Clinique Lash Doubling and Maybelline Colossal, and for the lower lashes I’m wearing Benefit They’re Real mascara.

Face: I applied my Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 liquid foundation in Classic Ivory all over my face and my neck with a beauty sponge, L’Oreal True Match concealer in N123 blended on my dark circles and areas of redness with my clean fingers, NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat powder foundation in Nude with a powder brush, ELF Studio powder blush in Pink Passion with a blush brush and Benefit Watts Up cream highlighter.

Lips: Rimmel Exaggerate Full Colour lip pencil in Innocent & a light layer of Covergirl Lip Perfection lipstick in Fairy Tale.

Hope you enjoyed! Thanks <3
